DPP nominates Suleman for speaker of Parliament

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has officially nominated Sameer Suleman, Member of Parliament for Blantyre City South East, as its candidate for Speaker of the National Assembly ahead of the crucial parliamentary vote scheduled for October 29, 2025.


The nomination was made with the endorsement of DPP leader and State President Arthur Peter Mutharika. In a statement issued by the party, the DPP urged all its Members of Parliament and alliance partners to unite in support of Suleman’s candidacy.


DPP Secretary General Peter Mukhito emphasized the strategic importance of the Speaker’s role in steering the legislative direction of the country.


“We urge every DPP MP and alliance partner to rally behind Sameer Suleman, attend the parliamentary session, and cast their vote to secure the Speaker’s position. Your support is crucial to upholding our mandate and ensuring smooth parliamentary proceedings,” said Mukhito.


The DPP described the upcoming election as a pivotal moment for reinforcing effective governance and advancing its legislative agenda aligned with Malawi’s development priorities.


The party’s secretariat added that it remains open for coordination and inquiries ahead of the vote.
