Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) Vice President Timothy Mtambo has dismissed as false and malicious social media claims linking him to alleged plans for demonstrations against the new administration, reaffirming his full commitment to peace, unity, and supporting the government in delivering development for all Malawians.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, Mtambo described the reports as dangerous misinformation meant to create confusion and division, saying he has no involvement whatsoever in any anti-government activities.
“I want to make it clear that the social media claims linking me to any planned demonstrations against the new administration are completely false. I have nothing to do with them, and I strongly condemn this kind of misinformation,” said Mtambo.
He said the country has just come out of peaceful elections, and this is a time to unite and focus on rebuilding the nation. “This is the time for us to come together and support the government in delivering on its promises, not to tear each other down with lies and propaganda.”
Mtambo warned that spreading falsehoods only serves to divide the nation and derail its progress, and emphasized that what Malawi needs now is unity, focus, and faith in the democratic path the people have chosen.
Echoing President Peter Mutharika’s recent appeal for all citizens to serve the will of the people, Mtambo urged Malawians to embrace patriotism and truthfulness in their public engagement.
He reaffirmed his unwavering belief in peaceful and democratic processes, calling on all Malawians to work together for progress and good governance.
“As a proud Malawian, my commitment remains the same: to see our country move forward through peaceful and democratic means. Let’s work together for progress, truth, and good governance,” he concluded.
Mtambo, rose to prominence in 2019 and 2020 as one of the key figures behind the nationwide protests that helped end the DPP regime and later served as a cabinet minister in the early days of the Tonse government.
